5 Cures for Spring Fever

In Alabama, the weather seems to have a mind of its own. One day it is 70 degrees, top down driving weather, the next it is 30 and flooding. Not only is this extremely detrimental to my body (my skin is going crazy), mentally I want to explode. I am ready to look at the forecast and see 7 sunshine icons in a row. I have officially diagnosed myself- I have a bad case of spring fever. Anyone else?!

Here are 5 simple and fun ways to cure that awful spring fever-

1. Flower arrangements

Channel your growing spring energy and create DIY flower arrangements for the house, office or to give away. Floral arrangements look great on dining room tables, in the kitchen, and they even lively up a cubicle.

Use your Valentine’s Day flowers (received or bought at discounted rates post Valentines) to create bouquets with unique vases. I enjoy rummaging through antique stores and finding inexpensive and unique “vases”. You can use old watering cans, wine bottles, or old glass milk cartons.

Make extra to give away- use painted mason jars with burlap string and a sweet note!

2. Get the House Ready for Spring

Before trading the dark winter place settings for the bright spring plates and napkins, do some cleaning. Rent a rug-doctor, disinfect any remaining flu germs, and clean out under the couches (the dust bunnies and Easter bunny do not need to meet). Once you’ve windexed the windows and dusted the blinds go ahead and add the pastel color pillows to the living room. Your DIY flower arrangements will look amazing in a clean, spring ready home.

3. Plan a Getaway

If you cannot stand the weather anymore, head down south (or somewhere warmer)! Spring break is coming upon us, go ahead and start booking tickets and hotels.

No kids? No problem! Take a long weekend (girls trip or solo) and head for warmer weather. It doesn’t matter if you are at the Ritz or Motel 6, the warm air will cure the spring fever pronto. While you are browsing sites close your eyes and imagine you are on the beach- it will buy some time.

4. Update Your Closet

If the dreary days have you down, treat yourself to a shopping spree. The weather may not be ready for flowers to bloom, but the stores are! Most department stores are stocked with pastels and floral *everything*. The boutiques are moving the beanies and gloves to the sales rack to make room for wrap dresses and floppy hats. Try on new clothes for the spring! Those lavender earrings are calling your name.

5. Get to the Gym

Get in shape for the big trip you just planned! The sun probably has not shone in a week and the trails are too muddy- so do some Pilates in your at-home yoga studio or hit the elliptical at the gym.

Need another reason? Workouts are a great stress reliever, especially if you are about to strangle your husband and kids from spending *too much* time with them in the house. To quote my favorite blonde- “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.”

Go to the gym, your body (and husband) will thank you.

Most likely, the time you took to read this, the sun did not come out and the tulips are not blooming yet. That’s okay, start looking for getaway locations, new swimsuits, and break out the swiffers. Spring is on her way!
